A paid subscriber reported that he was unable to read NR3 book files or use the "turbo" button, even though his machine activation seemingly went ok.

The following steps fixed the problem, and is a good troubleshooting sequence.

1. Use your subscription key to access your control panel and deactivate any machines shown. (If you can't do this, proceed anyway, or else contact us here (http://www.nr.com/contactform.php) .)

2. Verify that you can read this file: http://www.nrbook.com/sslpluginok.pdf . If not, then the problem is with the plug-in (or a firewall), not with the activation. Look here (http://www.nr.com/plugin/plugin_install.html#trouble) for troubleshooting information. If you can read sslpluginok.pdf, and get a congratulatory PDF page, then continue.

3. Delete any current fileopen rights files. On Windows, these are at C:\Documents and Settings\[your-account]\Application Data . Delete the whole folder FileOpen. In Linux and Mac these are in your home directory: delete or "rm -rf" the folder named .fileopen.

4. If you deauthorized your machine in step 1, now go to your control panel at http://nrbook.com/nr3 and authorize your machine. Do you get a confirming PDF page? If so, you are on the right track. Don't do the turbo button yet.

5. Try accessing some book sections. If you can't read Chapter 3, then (as in step 2) the problem is *not* an authorizing problem, since Chapter 3 is free. If you can read Chapter 3, but can't read (say) section 4.2, then indeed there is still a problem with authorization.

6. If all is well so far, then click the turbo button. Do you get a confirming PDF page with the word "Vroom"? If so, then everything is working. If not, and you are a paid subscriber, then contact us here (http://www.nr.com/contactform.php) .
